• No Interruption Wear

  You may see a nurse or other professional wearing a colored sash or vest. That signals that no one should interrupt the nurse who is wearing it unless there is an emergency. The nurse wears the No Interruption Wear (NIW) when “passing” meds, and removes it in between med passes. This opens the nurse up for interruption at appropriate times.

  A Sacred Zone is a space marked out on the floor in front of the area where the nurse pulls and prepares meds. This signifies that no one should cross into the space or talk to the RN who is in the zone.

  Volunteers, as well as staff members, should at all times respect the nurse’s undivided attention to medicine preparation and distribution.

• Donate a new backpack to a low-income
  Santa Clara County child

  • Pick up a card from a poster board located throughout the KP Santa Clara Medical Facililty.
  • Shop for a new backpack (please, no RED or BLUE backpacks) and fill it with recommended school supplies.
  • Or, donate funds either by mail or online and the items will be purchased for you.
  • Return the backpack to the Pediatrics Dept. 186 in the MOB on or before August 4, 2008.

  The Family Giving Tree organization will collect and sort the backpacks, and distribute them to low-income students via teachers and social service agencies.

• New Parking Valet Service Debuts

  
  Located outside the Homestead West Lobby, drivers are offered a free valet service Monday thru Friday, 7:30 am to 6 pm. Drivers are issued a numbered ticket for their car with a phone number (ext. 10022) they can call when they are ready for the car to be brought to the Valet stand. After 6 pm car keys will be available in the Homestead West Lobby.

  If you plan on using the valet service, drivers should enter the Medical Center on Homestead Road to ease traffic at the Lawrence Expressway entrance.

• Magazines Needed!

  Please bring your current issue magazines to the Homestead Medical Office Building. Up to 3 month old news magazines, up to 1 year other magazines and all issues of National Geographic are welcome. Ask you friends and neighbors to also save their magazines for you and bring them in on a regular basis. It's a great recycling effort!
  We need at least 450 magazines WEEKLY to supply all department waiting rooms. That's over 23,000 magazines a year! And, with the opening of the new hospital, the need for magazines will increase.
  Please deliver all magazines to the Homestead East Lobby Volunteer Desk. Thank you for your on-going help with our magazine supply needs.
